Outcomes of patients treated with perioperative epirubicin, cisplatin and fluoropyrimidine chemotherapy for gastro-oesophageal cancer in a New Zealand Cancer Centre

چکیده
Background In patients with resectable gastric or lower oesophageal adenocarcinomas the perioperative regimen of ECF (epirubicin, cisplatin, fluorouracil) has been proven to down-stage and significantly improve progression-free survival (PFS) and overall survival (OS) compared with surgery alone. This treatment has been applied in our centre since 2007. This is a retrospective audit to review and compare local clinical outcomes and quality to gold standard, taken as the phase III “MAGIC” (Medical Research Council Adjuvant Gastric Infusional Chemotherapy) trial results.

Background: Although postoperative chemoradiotherapy should be considered for all patients at high risk for recurrence of adenocarcinoma of the stomach, curative surgery occurs in less than 50% of nonmetastatic gastric cancers. A regimen of docetaxel, cisplatin and infusional fluorouracil improves survival of patients with incurable locally-advanced gastric adenocarcinoma. So we assessed the pe...

AIM To investigate the impact of histology on outcome in advanced oesophageal cancer treated with first-line fluoropyrimidine-based chemotherapy. METHODS Individual patient data were pooled from three randomised phase III trials of fluoropyrimidine-based chemotherapy ± platinum/anthracycline in patients with advanced, untreated gastroesophageal adenocarcinoma or squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) ...

Twenty patients with bulky (>4 cm size) FIGO stage IB cervical cancer were treated with cisplatin 50 mg/m2 and vincristine 1 mg/m2, administered intravenously at 10-day intervals for a total of 3 courses before radical hysterectomy. A complete clinical response was noted in 1 patient (5%) and partial response in 5 (25%). Fourteen patients (70%) had stable disease. There was no grade 3 toxic...

QUESTION What is the optimal chemotherapy regimen in advanced gastric cancer? PERSPECTIVES Gastric cancer is the second leading cause of cancer mortality worldwide. Despite low incidence rates for gastric cancer in Ontario, the overall prognosis is bleak, with 5-year survival rates of approximately 23% in Canada. Even with the considerable body of research available on chemotherapy for advanc...

This study's aim was to evaluate the efficacy and tolerance of this treatment. The study included patients with carcinoma of the lower oesophagus and gastro-oesophageal junction in whom the disease was evaluated as potentially operable. Chemotherapy (CHT) consisted of ...
